The aim of University Undergraduate Advising is to coordinate intentional, student-centered academic intervention and outreach efforts to support students at pivotal moments in their academic journey.
Through strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives, we help identify barriers, offer timely support, and foster resilience—ultimately improving undergraduate retention, persistence, and graduation.
Our data-informed strategies address student success outcome disparities, particularly among at-promise student populations, and promote a culture of resilience, persistence, and long-term academic achievement.
Our Approach
Academic Intervention
“A systematic method of recording and communicating student behaviors that contribute to student attrition,” (Tampke, 2013).
“A strategic method of outreach to positively respond to red flags or alerts in order to provide intrusive and individualized interventions to students in need,” (Lynch-Holmes, Troy, & Ramos, 2012).
Our academic interventions are proactive, equity-focused, and grounded in care ethics:
- Academic Coaching
- Exploratory and Transitional Advising
- Re-enrollment Services
- Tutoring
- Student Academic Success Series
- In collaboration with the colleges and schools, we coordinate the Big 5 standard interventions for all undergraduate students
Academic Outreach
Academic outreach can be defined as “strategic academic initiatives, data-driven solutions, and critical support services that reduce barriers and empower persistence and retention.”
Our outreach efforts include:
- Cross-campus collaboration with advising, faculty, and student service offices, including through the UUAC (University Undergraduate Advising Committee)
- Systems of early alert and support (e.g., early progress, academic and other referrals, CARE Team, mid-term grades)
- Identifying and providing differentiated student support groups through Pathways lists and campaigns
- Student Academic Success Series
